UNDER THE MANAGEMENT OF THE

NEW YORK ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY

183d St. and Southern Boulevard,

William T. Hornaday New York, May 29th, 1902 Director

Mr. Barnum Brown, American Museum of Natural History, 77th Street and Eighth Avenue, New York City.

My dear Mr. Brown:-

I am just in receipt of a letter from my good friend, Mr. L. A. Huffman, of Miles City, with an enclosure giving the location of the dinosaur found by Mr. Harrison. I send you Mr. Harrisons map of the location, from which I am sure you will have no difficulty in locating it on one of the land-office maps of Montana. It will not, however, be quite to easy to find it on the ground! But you will manage that. I do not happen to know where Olisons Pasture is located; but Mr. Huffman says in his letter, - if your friend will call on me when he reaches here, I will do what I can to set him right, so that he can take in the find, and not go a very long drive out of his way en route to Hell Creek. This means the the Northing you make in going to Hell Creek can be utilized by swinging over to the West to reach the dinosaur. Of course this would take fully twice as long as to go to Hell Creek alone, and come back.

I have not had an answer from Jim McNaney about his ability to take you out; bu I am very sure he will be glad to take you, if you wish to have him. As soon as i hear from him, I will let you know. His delay in writing me is probably in order to see what he can do.

Mr. Huffman writes that my old friend, Sieber, who had the ranch at Hell Creek, - has sold his claim, and is now working at the New Elubar Ranch as ranchman. I do not know anthing about who purchased him place; but whoever is there would surely treat you properly and help you along. This makes is a little more uncertain about planning your entertainment on Hell Creek; but I feel quite sure you need not take a tent, because you can undoubtedly be accommodated in the dugout there. I can give you a map of the location of the triceratops remains that were doung, so that you can go to them in an hour from the ranch- even without Sieber as a guide. I enclose a sketchmap which will show you aboutwhere hey are. They are not ove three miles from the ranch, if they are even that distance.

Yours very truly,

Director
